Friedel’s book cases

Posted by on Sep 1, 2017 in Student Gallery | No Comments

Friedel has been attending my evening classes for a number of years and has come to specialise in book cases.

This is partly because he has just retired as a philosophy lecturer at the University and needed to create space for all the books he has to remove from his office! So in the past couple of years he has made two large cases incorporating some ornate decorative elements which he had at home.

The first is a wall hung unit with a foliage carved crest rail. The second, about 2900mm high and completed just in time before he had to clear his office, fits in a wide alcove between two chimney breasts and incorporates a  baroque style mirror. The mirror gives the effect that you could step, Narnia like, through the shelves into a strange philosophical land!
