Sam and Mike’s chairs
A look at how two students on last years chair making course have developed their skills.
Afifa’s coffee table
Afiifa has been coming to my evening classes for about eighteen months. She made a good job of this oak and smoked glass coffee table. The mitring of the leg corners and fitting ot the undershelf required precise work which she enjoys.
Friedel’s book cases
Friedel has become something of a book case expert since starting my evening classes. His work presents a bit of a challenge in the class setting because it is so large. His recent book case was approximately 3 metres square. He has a good eye for mixing styles using elements both old and new and has pulled it off in both these pieces.
Mike’s saw sharpening
Mike has attended a number of my courses, in April he came on the Saw Sharpening course which is taught by the saw maker Shane Skelton of Skelton Saws. Mike recently emailed me with an update on his saw sharpening activities. It just shows what you can do after some of Shanes expert tuition, so […]
Deborah’s CD cabinet

Nick’s chair, table and stool

Phil’s Crockinole table
After attending one of my beginners four day courses Phil enrolled for my Thursday evening class. This crockinole table was his first project.
Bernard’s table and tray.
Bernard has been attending my Tuesday evening class for two or three years and has made some good pieces in that time.
Ray’s oak coffee table
This coffee table with an interesting joint arrangement was Ray’s first project on my Tuesday afternoon class
Henry’s puzzle box
Henry actually made this box before he started on my Tuesday evening class, but I thought it was so interesting that I’m showing it here. Based on a box that appeared in the film “The Illusionist” it’s a bit of a puzzle box to open. You have to twist it diagonally to create a heart […]
Jan’s oak table
Jan made this oak table on my Beginners Make a Table four day course. He has good reason to look proud of it as he made it almost entirely with hand tools. On this course we cut mortice and tenons both by hand and using a router, but Jan fancied the challenge of doing it […]
Elizabeth’s folding table
This was Elizabeth’s first project when she started on my afternoon class last year. It’s a table for her daughter to sit at, on the floor, to do her homework. The table folds up when not in use. It’s in oak and walnut, a very pleasing combination. If you like what you’ve read or know […]
