Course description  Marquetry has a long history in furniture making and has probably been around since someone had the idea of cutting thin pieces of wood, sticking them on a substrate and calling it veneer. During this beginners marquetry course we will make the classical fluted fan motif, as pictured. This will include the technique of dipping sycamore veneer in hot sand to create the fluted effect (sand shading), cutting to fit and recessing the motif into the background. The inlay motif will then be laid onto a solid wood substrate to create a great coaster or plaque. It is hoped that the relaxed approach of the workshops will make them both informative and enjoyable.
